A Dragon's guide to Horizons: Empire of Istaria
By Ranqthas Clawfoot
Locations to Visit: Dralk, Dalimond, Bristugo, Tower of Clerics, Granitefall Mountains, Selen, South Gate, Tower of Magery, Frozen Wastes, Tower of Summoning, Barasavian Desert, Tower of Healing
Enemy Ratings: 83
Craft Requirements: none
Remarks: Can only be done once you have completed "Acquire a Crystalline Vessel"
Getting the Run-Around
This task will imbue the Crystal Orb you obtained earlier with your will.
Obviously, you can only perform this after you have completed the task
"Acquire a Crystalline Vessel".
This is by far the most time consuming
portion of the Rite of Passage. You will trek across some of the more obscure
and out-of-the-way places of Istaria. If you do not have the highest tier of
wing scales you can wear teched with the highest tier of Speed that they can
accept, you should consider having a set made before continuing.
To begin,
speak with Valkoth in Dralk, who will give you the quest "Imbue the Crystal
Orb With Your Own Will".
Trail of Devistation
Seril the Empty -- one of the Mind Lasher's victims.
Valkoth will set you upon the trail of a Mind Lasher. Almost like a parasite,
they take over bodies and minds in order to survive and gain power. At least
one roams Istaria - you must track it down.
Once you get the quest, Valkoth
suggests that you begin by speaking to shopkeepers. The pawn broker or
cosigner in Dralk is a good place to start. Upon greeting one, you will get a
tell from Maethor directing your attention to a shop near Dalimond.
The
cosigner in Dalimond has more information and will direct you on your way.
What follows is quite a bit of legwork as you track down the empty shells of
former people left behind as the Mind Lasher moved on.
The Mind of a Mind Lasher
The Tower of Magery in the Frozen Wastes
Eventually you will end up at the Tower of Magery, northwest of Morning Light.
Eilen speaks of a werewolf that comes by periodically. You should be able to
find this werewolf, Talon the Possessed, to the east of the tower, near a
frozen lake.
Talon the Possessed -- What could this beast want?
Though it speaks with great difficulty, Talon is sharp of mind. You will be
given a sub-quest to deliver some messages for Talon - "Deliver Talon's
Messages". Only once you have completed these tasks will you be able to do
battle.
A Deal With the Enemy
Progress Check: You should have "Deliver the message to Kaa on an island near
the Tower of Summoning" and "Deliver the message to Lem in the desert canyons
west of the Tower of Healing" as the current steps in the quest "Deliver
Talon's Messages".
Kaa the Idealist looks out to sea near the Tower of Summoning.
Lem the Peaceful takes shelter from the desert sun.
The first tasks of this sub-quest will be to speak to Kaa and Lem. These are
not the same as the ones you will be fighting later. Kaa the Idealist stands
on the eastern tip of the island with the Tower of Summoning and Lem the
Peaceful is actually north of Dryart. Deliver Talon's messages and return.
A Favor Returned With Blood
Talon will follow through once you have completed the sub-quest. You may now
do battle and capture its will, along with a bit of yours inside the Crystal
Orb. Esh the Mind Lasher takes the form of a rating 83, level 70 hatchling
dragon. Bring friends to help you, as this poses a challenge, even to those
who have waited to obtain the Simulated Scales.
One Esh has been defeated, return to Valkoth to tell of your experience. The
Ancient will then direct you to the tower of Healing, where Harle Aela the
Pure will cleanse the spirit of the Mind Lasher from the Orb, leaving you with
a Charged Crystal Orb, completing the quest and portion of your Rite of Passage.
